Qutaybah narrated to us: Hatim ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, from Abu al-Malih, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever does not ask Allah, He becomes angry with him.’ He said: Waki‘ and more than one other narrator transmitted this hadith from Abu al-Malih; we know it only by this route. Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to us: Abu ‘Asim narrated to us, from Humayd Abu al-Malih, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, something similar. Abu al-Malih’s name was Subayh. I heard Muhammad say this, and he said that Abu al-Malih was also called al-Farisi.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic explicitly says that Allah becomes angry with the one who does not ask Him. It then gives an additional route and identifies Abu al-Malih by name and alternate epithet.
