حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا أَسْأَلُهُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ . قَالَ " سَلِ اللَّهَ الْعَافِيَةَ " . فَمَكَثْتُ أَيَّامًا ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا أَسْأَلُهُ اللَّهَ . فَقَالَ لِي " يَا عَبَّاسُ يَا عَمَّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ سَلِ اللَّهَ الْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ قَدْ سَمِعَ مِنَ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ .

Ahmad ibn Mani‘ narrated to us; ‘Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, from al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib, who said: I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.’ He replied, ‘Ask Allah for well-being.’ I waited several days, then came and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah for.’ He said to me, ‘‘Abbas, uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a sahih hadith. ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal did hear from al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib.’

فَمَكَثْتُ أَيَّامًا ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا أَسْأَلُهُ اللَّهَ .
The Arabic says that al-‘Abbas waited several days (ayyāman); the English witness says he remained for a day.
