Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali al-Khallal narrated to us; Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi narrated to us; ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Abi Salamah and Yusuf ibn al-Majishun narrated to us. ‘Abd al-‘Aziz said: ‘My uncle narrated to me’; Yusuf said: ‘My father informed me.’ Al-A‘raj narrated to me, from ‘Ubaydullah ibn Abi Rafi‘, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for prayer, he would say: ‘I have turned my face toward the One who originated the heavens and the earth, inclining toward the truth, and I am not one of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner; this is what I have been commanded, and I am among the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King; there is no god but You. You are my Lord and I am Your servant. I have wronged myself and acknowledged my sin, so forgive all my sins, for none forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best character, for none guides to the best of it but You; and turn its evil away from me, for none turns its evil away from me but You. Here I am, answering Your call; all good is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I am through You and toward You. Blessed and Exalted are You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.’ When he bowed, he would say: ‘O Allah, to You I bow, in You I believe, and to You I submit. My hearing, sight, bones, and sinews are humbled before You.’ When he rose, he would say: ‘O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs praise, filling the heaven, the earth, what is between them, and whatever else You will.’ When he prostrated, he would say: ‘O Allah, to You I prostrate, in You I believe, and to You I submit. My face has prostrated to the One who created it, shaped it, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators.’ Then among the last things he would say between the tashahhud and the salutation was: ‘O Allah, forgive me what I have sent ahead and what I have left behind, what I have concealed and what I have made public, what I have exceeded in, and what You know better than I do. You are the One who brings forward and the One who puts back; there is no god but You.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith.’
