Qutaybah ibn Sa‘id narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Ja‘far ibn Rabi‘ah, from al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘When you hear roosters crowing, ask Allah for His bounty, for they have seen an angel. When you hear a donkey braying, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed, for it has seen a devil.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith.’
