حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَاَ عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ تُوُفِّيَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ يَعْنِي رَجُلٌ أَبْشِرْ بِالْجَنَّةِ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَوَلاَ تَدْرِي فَلَعَلَّهُ تَكَلَّمَ فِيمَا لاَ يَعْنِيهِ أَوْ بَخِلَ بِمَا لاَ يَنْقُصُهُ " . قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ .

Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Baghdādī narrated to us: ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: One of his Companions died, and a man said, 'Rejoice in Paradise!' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'How do you know? Perhaps he spoke about what did not concern him or withheld something that would not have diminished him.' He said: 'This hadith is gharīb.'
