حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، وَيُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ سَوَادَةَ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ، هُوَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لاَ يَمْنَعَنَّكُمْ مِنْ سُحُورِكُمْ أَذَانُ بِلاَلٍ وَلاَ الْفَجْرُ الْمُسْتَطِيلُ وَلَكِنِ الْفَجْرُ الْمُسْتَطِيرُ فِي الأُفُقِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ .

Samurah ibn Jundub narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: Do not let Bilals call to prayer or the vertically rising dawn prevent you from taking your pre-dawn meal; rather, it is the dawn that spreads across the horizon. Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan.

The Arabic distinguishes the vertically rising dawn from the horizontal light on the horizon.
قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لاَ يَمْنَعَنَّكُمْ مِنْ سُحُورِكُمْ أَذَانُ بِلاَلٍ وَلاَ الْفَجْرُ الْمُسْتَطِيلُ وَلَكِنِ الْفَجْرُ الْمُسْتَطِيرُ فِي الأُفُقِ " .
The phrase al-fajr al-mustatil describes the elongated, vertical dawn glow, contrasted with the dawn spreading across the horizon.
Should this be labeled false dawn in addition to the literal description?
