Hannad and Abu Kuraib narrated to us: Waki' narrated to us, from Hajib bin 'Umar, from Al-Hakam bin Al-A'raj, who said: I came upon Ibn 'Abbas while he was reclining on his cloak at Zamzam. I said, ‘Tell me about the Day of 'Ashura: which day should I fast?’ He replied: ‘When you see the crescent of Muharram, count the days and then fast on the morning of the ninth.’ I asked, ‘Is this how Muhammad fasted it?’ He said, ‘Yes.’
