Qutaibah narrated to us: Al-Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham, who said: 'Aishah and Umm Salamah, the wives of the Prophet, informed me that the Prophet would find dawn had arrived while he was in a state of janabah from marital relations. He would then perform ghusl and fast. Abu 'Isa said: The hadith of 'Aishah and Umm Salamah is hasan sahih. Most scholars among the Companions of the Prophet and others acted on this report. This was the view of Sufyan, Ash-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. Some of the Followers said that if someone began the morning in a state of janabah, he must make up that day's fast. The first view is more correct.
