Ishaq ibn Musa al-Ansari narrated to us: Ma‘n narrated to us: Malik narrated to us, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that a non-Muslim guest stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger ordered a sheep to be milked for him, and he drank. Then another was milked, and he drank; then another, and he drank, until he had drunk the milk of seven sheep. The next morning he became Muslim. The Messenger then ordered a sheep to be milked for him, and he drank its milk. He then ordered another, but the man could not finish it. The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The believer drinks with one intestine, and the disbeliever drinks with seven intestines.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharīb (good, authentic, and rare) according to the report of Suhayl.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic says that the guest became Muslim the next morning; it does not explicitly say that he awoke.

  • حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ،

The English witness omits the chain from Ishaq ibn Musa through Malik, Suhayl, and his father.

Should the complete chain be included?
