Jabir reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘The food of one suffices two; the food of two suffices four; and the food of four suffices eight.’ Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-A‘mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, from the Prophet, with this same wording.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
This is a continuation with a second route from Jabir. The English witness also mentions Ibn ‘Umar, but the Arabic text supplied here names only Jabir.
The Arabic here says only ‘Jabir reported from the Prophet’; Ibn ‘Umar is not named in this block.
Should the mention of Ibn ‘Umar be removed from this witness segment or checked against preceding material?
The Arabic supplies the full second chain through Muhammad ibn Bashshar, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi, Sufyan, al-A‘mash, and Abu Sufyan.
Should the second chain be expanded in the English witness?
