Hannad narrated to us: ‘Abdah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, from Ibn ‘Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating al-jallalah and drinking its milk. There is also a report on this topic from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abbas. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharīb (good, though rare). Al-Thawri reported it from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, from the Prophet in mursal form (with the Companion omitted).

Al-jallalah is retained as a technical term for an animal that feeds on filth; the source text does not define it in this passage.

The English witness omits the chain from Hannad through ‘Abdah, Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Ibn Abi Najih, and Mujahid.
Should the complete chain be included?
