Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Za‘farani narrated to us: Yahya ibn ‘Abbad, Abu ‘Abbad, narrated to us: Fulayh ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Wahhab ibn Yahya, a descendant of ‘Abbad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, from ‘A’ishah, who said: The foreleg was not the meat the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked most. But he only had meat occasionally, so the foreleg was brought to him promptly because it cooked the fastest. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharīb (rare); we know it only by this route.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic says meat was available only at intervals (ghibban), and the foreleg was served quickly because it was the quickest part to cook. The source grades this report gharīb only; the English witness adds hasan.
The Arabic says only gharīb and does not include hasan.
Should hasan be removed from the witness's grade?
The English witness omits the chain through al-Hasan al-Za‘farani, Yahya ibn ‘Abbad, Fulayh ibn Sulayman, ‘Abd al-Wahhab ibn Yahya, and ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr.
Should the full chain be included?
