Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Za‘farani narrated to us: ‘Affan narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us: Humayd, Thabit, and Qatadah informed us, from Anas, that some people from ‘Uraynah came to Madinah and found its climate disagreeable. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent them to the camels designated for charity and said: ‘Drink from their urine and their milk.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharīb (good, authentic, and rare) by this route. This hadith has also been reported through other routes from Anas: Abu Qilabah reported it from Anas, and Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah reported it from Qatadah, from Anas.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source says the visitors found Madinah's climate disagreeable; the Arabic route has Humayd, Thabit, and Qatadah all reporting from Anas.
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ،
The English witness omits the chain through al-Hasan al-Za‘farani, ‘Affan, Hammad ibn Salamah, and the three transmitters from Anas.
Should the complete chain be included?
قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ .
The Arabic says ‘by this route’ (min hadha al-wajh), not specifically ‘as a narration of Thabit’; the chain lists Humayd, Thabit, and Qatadah together.
Should the witness's attribution specifically to Thabit be checked against the intended edition?
