Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Qutaybah ibn Sa‘id narrated to us: al-Layth narrated to us, from Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih, from Abu Talut, who said: I visited Anas ibn Malik while he was eating gourd. He was saying to it, “O tree, I love you only because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loved you.”

He said: Something on this topic is also reported from Hakim ibn Jabir, from his father. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharīb by this route.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness gives the parallel narrator as “Hakim bin Jarir,” whereas the Arabic reads Hakim ibn Jabir (حكيم بن جابر). The address “O tree” reflects the Arabic wording, though the food is gourd/squash.

  • حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ،

The English witness omits the transmission chain preceding Abu Talut.

Please review the isnad supplied from the Arabic source.

  • ‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ‏.

The Arabic clearly reads Jabir; the English witness reads Jarir.

Should the parallel narrator's name be corrected from Jarir to Jabir?
