Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri and Abu Nu‘aym narrated to us—both said: Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Isa, from a man called ‘Ata’, one of the people of Syria, from Abu Asid, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Eat olives and use their oil, for they come from a blessed tree.”
Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharīb by this route. We know it only through the narration of Sufyan al-Thawri, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Isa.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The English witness omits the full chain and the unidentified intermediary, a Syrian man called ‘Ata’. The wording ‘Eat olives and use their oil’ follows the Arabic; the witness’s ‘Eat of its oil’ is awkward and may confuse the two instructions.

The English witness omits the full isnad and an intermediary identified only as a Syrian man called Ata.
Please review the chain, including the narrator whose identity is not further specified.
