Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Yahya ibn Musa narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, from Ma‘mar, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Eat olives and use their oil, for they come from a blessed tree.”

Abu ‘Isa said: We know this hadith only through the narration of ‘Abd al-Razzaq from Ma‘mar. ‘Abd al-Razzaq was inconsistent in transmitting this hadith: sometimes he mentioned it as from ‘Umar, from the Prophet; sometimes he transmitted it with uncertainty, saying, “I think it is from ‘Umar, from the Prophet”; and sometimes he said, “From Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from the Prophet,” as a mursal report.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic presents the initial chain through ‘Umar, then notes variant and uncertain forms of transmission, including a mursal version that omits the Companion from the chain. The verb ادهنوا means apply/use oil on oneself.

  • حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى،

The English witness gives the companion attribution but omits the full source chain.
