Azhar ibn Marwan al-Basri reported to us from Abd al-Warith ibn Said, from Ayyub, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Abu al-Dahma, from Hisham ibn Amir, who said: On the day of Uhud, the wounded were brought to the Messenger of Allah. He said: Dig, make the grave wide, and do the work well. Bury two or three in one grave, and give precedence to the one who knew the most of the Quran. My father died, and he was placed ahead of two men.

Abu Isa said: Reports on this subject also come from Khabbab, Jabir, and Anas. This hadith is hasan sahih. Sufyan al-Thawri and others transmitted this hadith from Ayyub, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Hisham ibn Amir. Abu al-Dahma’s name was Qirfah ibn Buhays or Bayhas.
