Samurah reported that the Messenger of Allah said: “A home’s neighbor has the strongest right to the home.” Reports on this subject are also narrated from al-Sharīd, Abū Rāfiʿ, and Anas. Samurah’s hadith is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ. ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus narrated a similar report from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah, from Anas. The sounder version according to scholars is al-Ḥasan’s report from Samurah; we know Qatādah’s report from Anas only through ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus. The report of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ṭāʾifī, from ʿAmr ibn al-Sharīd, from his father, is ḥasan. Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah also narrated from ʿAmr ibn al-Sharīd, from Abū Rāfiʿ. Muḥammad said: Both reports are sound in my view.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The report relates to a neighbor’s preemptive right (shufʿah) in property sales.
