Chapter 15
فَضْلِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رضى الله عنه

'Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us; Musa ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Ibn Sabit—namely, 'Abd al-Rahman—from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: Mu'awiyah came during one of his pilgrimages, and Sa'd entered to see him. They mentioned 'Ali, and Mu'awiyah spoke ill of him. Sa'd became angry and said: Do you say this of a man about whom I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever has me as his mawla, 'Ali is his mawla? I heard him say: You are to me as Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no prophet after me. And I heard him say: Today I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger.

Chapter 16
فَضْلِ الزُّبَيْرِ رضى الله عنه

'Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Waki' narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir, who said: On the day of Qurayzah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who will bring us news of the people? Al-Zubayr said: I will. He asked again: Who will bring us news of the people? Al-Zubayr said: I will—three times. The Prophet said: Every prophet has a devoted supporter, and my devoted supporter is al-Zubayr.

Hisham ibn 'Ammar and Hadiyyah ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us; they said: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, who said: 'Aishah said to me: 'Urwah, your two fathers are among those who answered Allah and the Messenger after they had been wounded: Abu Bakr and al-Zubayr.

'Ali ibn Muhammad and 'Amr ibn 'Abdullah al-Awdi narrated to us; they said: Waki' narrated to us; al-Salt al-Azdi narrated to us; Abu Nadr narrated to us, from Jabir, that Talhah passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: A martyr walking upon the face of the earth.

Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us; Ishaq informed us, from Musa ibn Talhah, who said: We were with Mu'awiyah, and he said: I testify that I surely heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Talhah is one of those who fulfilled his pledge.

Chapter 18
فَضْلِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رضى الله عنه

Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us; Shu'bah narrated to us, from Sa'd ibn Ibrahim, from 'Abdullah ibn Shaddad, from 'Ali, who said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) join his two parents in a saying to anyone except Sa'd ibn Malik, when he said to him on the day of Uhud: Shoot, Sa'd! May my father and mother be your ransom!

Masruq ibn al-Marzuban narrated to us; Yahya ibn Abi Za'idah narrated to us, from Hashim ibn Hashim, who said: I heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab say: Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas said: No one else became Muslim on the day I became Muslim. I remained for seven days as a third of Islam.

Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us; 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us; Sadaqah ibn al-Muthanna Abu al-Muthanna al-Nakha'i narrated to us, from his grandfather Riyah ibn al-Harith, who heard his grandfather Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the tenth of ten. He said: Abu Bakr is in Paradise; 'Umar is in Paradise; 'Uthman is in Paradise; 'Ali is in Paradise; Talhah is in Paradise; al-Zubayr is in Paradise; Sa'd is in Paradise; and 'Abd al-Rahman is in Paradise. He was asked: Who is the ninth? He said: I am.

Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Ibn Abi 'Adiyy narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Husayn, from Hilal ibn Yasaf, from 'Abdullah ibn Zalim, from Sa'id ibn Zayd, who said: I bear witness concerning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that I heard him say: Stay firm, Hira! There is none upon you but a prophet, a man of exceptional truthfulness, or a martyr. The Messenger of Allah then counted them: Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, Talhah, al-Zubayr, Sa'd, Ibn 'Awf, and Sa'id ibn Zayd.

Chapter 20
فَضْلِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ رضى الله عنه

'Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan. (H) Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us; Shu'bah narrated to us. They all reported from Abu Ishaq, from Silah ibn Zufar, from Hudhayfah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people of Najran: I will send you a truly trustworthy man. The people eagerly craned their necks to see, and he sent Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah.

Al-Hasan ibn 'Ali al-Khallal narrated to us; Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us; Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Zirr, from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, that Abu Bakr and 'Umar gave him the good news that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to recite the Quran fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm 'Abd.

Chapter 22
فَضْلِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رضى الله عنه

Muhammad ibn Tarif narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us; al-A'mash narrated to us, from Abu Sabrah al-Nakha'i, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, from al-'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, who said: We would encounter groups of Quraysh talking, and they would stop their conversation. We mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: What is the matter with people who talk, then when they see a man from my household, they stop talking? By Allah, faith does not enter a man's heart until he loves them for Allah's sake and for their kinship to me.
