Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Affan narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray toward Bayt al-Maqdis. Then this verse was revealed: ‘We have certainly seen your face turning toward the sky; We will surely turn you toward a qiblah that pleases you. So turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque.’ A man from Banu Salimah passed by them while they were bowing in the dawn prayer, having prayed one rak'ah. He called out: ‘Listen! The qiblah has been changed.’ So they turned, as they were, toward the qiblah.
