Chapter 6
صِلَةِ الرَّحِمِ وَتَحْرِيمِ قَطِيعَتِهَا
Qutaybah ibn Said ibn Jamil ibn Tarif ibn Abd Allah al-Thaqafi and Muhammad ibn Abbad narrated to us; they said: Hatim, that is, Ibn Ismail, narrated to us, from Muawiyah, that is, Ibn Abi Muzarrid, the freedman of Banu Hashim. My uncle Abu al-Hubab Said ibn Yasar narrated to me, from Abu Huraira, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah created creation, and when He had finished with them, kinship rose and said: This is the station of one seeking refuge from severance. He said: Yes. Would you not be content that I maintain ties with whoever maintains ties with you and sever ties with whoever severs ties with you? It said: Yes. He said: That is yours. Then the Messenger of Allah said: Recite, if you wish: If you turn away, might you then spread corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, making them deaf and blinding their sight. Will they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Zuhair ibn Harb narrated to us; the wording is from Abu Bakr. They said: Waki narrated to us, from Muawiyah ibn Abi Muzarrid, from Yazid ibn Ruman, from Urwah, from Aishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kinship is suspended from the Throne and says: Whoever maintains ties with me, Allah will maintain ties with him; whoever severs ties with me, Allah will sever ties with him.
