Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Aswad ibn ʿĀmir narrated to us: ʿImārah ibn Zādhān narrated to us: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥakam narrated to us: ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: “Any man who memorizes knowledge and then conceals it will be brought on the Day of Resurrection bridled with a bridle of fire.” Abū al-Ḥasan (that is, al-Qaṭṭān) said: Abū Ḥātim narrated to us: Abū al-Walīd narrated to us: ʿImārah ibn Zādhān narrated to us, and he related a report with similar wording.

Abū Marwān al-ʿUthmānī, Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān, narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Hurmuz al-Aʿraj, who heard Abū Hurayrah say: By God, were it not for two verses in the Book of God Most High, I would never have narrated anything from him—that is, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Were it not for the words of God, “Indeed, those who conceal what God sent down of the Book...” through to the end of the two verses.

al-Ḥusayn ibn Abī al-Sarī al-ʿAsqalānī narrated to us: Khalaf ibn Tamīm narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Sarī, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jābir, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When the later members of this community curse its earlier members, whoever conceals a report has concealed what God sent down.”

Aḥmad ibn al-Azhar narrated to us: al-Haytham ibn Jamīl narrated to me: ʿUmar ibn Sulaym narrated to us: Yūsuf ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, who said: I heard Anas ibn Mālik say: I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “Whoever is asked about knowledge and conceals it will be bridled with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection.”

Ismāʿīl ibn Ḥibbān ibn Wāqid al-Thaqafī Abū Isḥāq al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Dāb narrated to us, from Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever conceals knowledge through which God benefits people in their religious affairs, God will bridle him with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection.”

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥafṣ ibn Hishām ibn Zayd ibn Anas ibn Mālik narrated to us: Abū Ibrāhīm Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm al-Karābīsī narrated to us, from Ibn ʿAwn, from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever is asked about knowledge that he knows and conceals it will be bridled with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection.”
