The Book of Prayer - Travellers

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Would any of you like to find, upon returning to his family, three large, fat, pregnant she-camels?” We said, “Yes.” He said, “Three verses that one of you recites in prayer are better for him than three large, fat, pregnant she-camels.”

'Uqbah ibn 'Amir reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out while we were on the Suffah and said, “Which of you would like to go each morning to Buthan or al-'Aqiq and return with two large she-camels, without sin or cutting family ties?” We said, “Messenger of Allah, we would like that.” He said, “Would it not be better for one of you to go to the mosque and learn or recite two verses from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic? They are better for him than two she-camels; three verses are better than three, and four are better than four—and likewise according to their number.”

Al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an reported that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say, “On the Day of Resurrection, the Qur'an and those who acted upon it will be brought, preceded by Surah al-Baqarah and Al 'Imran.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave three comparisons for them, which I have not forgotten: “They are like two clouds, or two dark canopies with light between them, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading on behalf of their companions.”

Ibn 'Abbas reported: While Gabriel was sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ), he heard a creaking sound above him and raised his head. He said, “This is a gate of heaven opened today; it has never been opened before.” An angel descended through it, and he said, “This is an angel who has come down to earth; he has never come down before.” The angel greeted him and said, “Rejoice in two lights given to you, which were not given to any prophet before you: the Opening of the Book and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will not recite a letter from either of them without being granted it.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to Ubayy ibn Ka'b, “Abu al-Mundhir, do you know which verse in the Book of Allah that you have memorized is greatest?” He replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He asked again, “Abu al-Mundhir, do you know which verse in the Book of Allah that you have memorized is greatest?” Ubayy said, “Allah—there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) struck his chest and said, “May knowledge bring you joy, Abu al-Mundhir!”

'A'ishah reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) appointed a man to lead a military expedition. During prayer, he would recite for his companions, always ending with, “Say: He is Allah, the One.” When they returned, they mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), who told them, “Ask him why he does that.” They asked him, and he replied, “Because it describes the Most Merciful, and I love to recite it.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Tell him that Allah loves him.”
