Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (pbuh) (Al-Maghaazi)

Bishr ibn Muhammad related to us: Abdullah related to us, saying: Yunus said that al-Zuhri said: Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib informed me, among a group of scholars, that Aisha said:

“When the Prophet was well, he used to say, ‘No prophet is taken in death until he sees his place in Paradise and is then given a choice.’ When death came to him, while his head was on my thigh, he became unconscious. Then he regained consciousness, raised his gaze to the ceiling of the house, and said, ‘O Allah, the highest companions.’ I said, ‘In that case, he will not choose to remain with us.’ I realized that this was the statement he used to tell us when he was well.” She said, “The last words he spoke were, ‘O Allah, the highest companions.’”

Abu Nu‘aym related to us: Shayban related to us, from Yahya, from Abu Salama, from Aisha and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), that the Prophet remained in Mecca for ten years while the Quran was being revealed to him, and in Medina for ten years.

Abdullah ibn Yusuf related to us: al-Layth related to us, from ‘Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab, from ‘Urwa ibn al-Zubayr, from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah died at the age of sixty-three. Ibn Shihab said: Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib informed me of the same.

Qabisa related to us: Sufyan related to us, from al-A‘mash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:

“The Prophet died while his armor was pledged to a Jew for thirty.” The source adds: “meaning a sa‘ of barley.”

Abu ‘Asim al-Dahhak ibn Makhlad related to us, from al-Fudayl ibn Sulayman: Musa ibn ‘Uqba related to us, from Salim, from his father:

The Prophet appointed Usama [as commander], and people criticized him for it. The Prophet said, “I have been told that you have spoken against Usama. He is among the people most beloved to me.”

Isma‘il related to us: Malik related to us, from Abdullah ibn Dinar, from Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), that the Messenger of Allah dispatched an expedition and appointed Usama ibn Zayd as its commander. People criticized his appointment, so the Messenger of Allah stood and said, “If you criticize his command, you also criticized his father’s command before him. By Allah, he was indeed worthy of command and among the people most beloved to me; and this one is among the people most beloved to me after him.”

Asbagh related to us, saying: Ibn Wahb informed me: ‘Amr informed me, from Ibn Abi Habib, from Abu al-Khayr, from al-Sunabihi, who said:

He asked me, “When did you emigrate?” I replied, “We left Yemen as emigrants and arrived at al-Juhfa. A rider came, and I asked him for news. He said, ‘We buried the Prophet five days ago.’” I asked, “Did you hear anything about the Night of Decree?” He said, “Yes. Bilal, the Prophet’s caller to prayer, informed me that it is on the seventh among the last ten nights.”

Abdullah ibn Raja related to us: Isra’il related to us, from Abu Ishaq, who said:

I asked Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), “How many military expeditions did you take part in with the Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “Seventeen.” I asked, “How many did the Prophet take part in?” He replied, “Nineteen.”

Abdullah ibn Raja related to us: Isra’il related to us, from Abu Ishaq: al-Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) related to us, saying, “I went on fifteen military expeditions with the Prophet.”

Ahmad ibn al-Hasan related to me: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ibn Hilal related to us: Mu‘tamir ibn Sulayman related to us, from Kahmas, from Ibn Burayda, from his father, who said, “He went on sixteen military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah.”
