ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: my maternal uncle Muḥammad, Abū Muʿāwiyah, and Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh, from al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: I applied perfume to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) for his entering the consecrated state and for his leaving it.

Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; they said: Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us: ʿUmārah ibn al-Qaʿqāʿ narrated to us, from Abū Zurʿah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O God, forgive those who shave their heads.” They said, “Messenger of God, and those who shorten their hair?” He said, “O God, forgive those who shave their heads.” He said this three times. They said, “Messenger of God, and those who shorten their hair?” He said, “And those who shorten their hair.”

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad and Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī al-Dimashqī narrated to us; they said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “May God have mercy on those who shave their heads.” They said, “And those who shorten their hair, Messenger of God?” He said, “May God have mercy on those who shave their heads.” They asked again, and he repeated it. They asked a third time, and he said, “And those who shorten their hair.”

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr narrated to us: Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to us: Ibn Isḥāq narrated to us: Ibn Abī Najīḥ narrated to us, from Mujāhid, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: It was said, “Messenger of God, why did you invoke blessings for those who shave their heads three times and for those who shorten their hair only once?” He said, “They had no doubts.”

Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that Ḥafṣah, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: I said, “Messenger of God, why have the people left the consecrated state while you have not left it for your ʿumrah?” He said, “I have matted my hair and garlanded my sacrificial animal, so I will not leave the consecrated state until I sacrifice it.”

Aḥmad ibn ʿAmr ibn al-Sarḥ al-Miṣrī informed us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb informed us: Yūnus informed us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) enter the consecrated state with his hair matted.

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad and ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; they said: Wakīʿ narrated to us: Usāmah ibn Zayd narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Jābir, who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “All of Minā is a place for sacrifice; every road through Makkah is a path and a place for sacrifice; all of ʿArafah is a place of standing, and all of Muzdalifah is a place of standing.”

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: Whenever the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about someone doing one rite before another, he gestured with both hands and said, “There is no harm.”

Abū Bishr Bakr ibn Khalaf narrated to us: Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: On the Day at Minā, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked questions and would say, “No harm, no harm.” A man came and said, “I shaved before sacrificing.” He said, “No harm.” He said, “I stoned after evening had come.” He said, “No harm.”

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿĪsā ibn Ṭalḥah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about someone who sacrificed before shaving, or shaved before sacrificing. He said, “No harm.”

Hārūn ibn Saʿīd al-Miṣrī narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to us: Usāmah ibn Zayd informed me: ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ told me that he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh say: On the Day of Sacrifice at Minā, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) sat among the people. A man came and said, “Messenger of God, I shaved before sacrificing.” He said, “No harm.” Then another came and said, “Messenger of God, I slaughtered before stoning.” He said, “No harm.” That day, whenever he was asked about doing one rite before another, he said, “No harm.”

Ḥarmalah ibn Yaḥyā al-Miṣrī narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, who said: I saw the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) stone the Jamrat al-ʿAqabah in the forenoon. As for the stoning after that, it was after the sun passed its zenith.

Jubārah ibn al-Mughallis narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah, Abū Shaybah, narrated to us, from al-Ḥakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stone the pillars after the sun had passed its zenith, at a time when he would finish stoning and then pray the noon prayer.

Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and Hannād ibn al-Sarī narrated to us; they said: Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated to us, from Shabīb ibn Gharqadah, from Sulaymān ibn ʿAmr ibn al-Aḥwaṣ, from his father, who said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say during the Farewell Pilgrimage, “People, which day is most sacred?” He asked this three times. They said, “The day of the Greater Pilgrimage.” He said, “Your blood, property, and honor are sacred to one another, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. No one commits a crime except against himself; no parent commits a crime on behalf of his child, and no child on behalf of his parent. Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped in this land of yours, but he will be obeyed in some deeds that you consider insignificant, and he will be pleased with that. Every blood claim from the Age of Ignorance is now void; the first I annul is the blood claim for al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, who was being nursed among Banū Layth when Hudhayl killed him. Every instance of usury from the Age of Ignorance is also annulled; you are entitled only to your principal, so neither wrong others nor be wronged. My community, have I conveyed the message?” He asked three times. They said, “Yes.” He said, “O God, bear witness,” three times.

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from ʿAbd al-Salām, from al-Zuhrī, from Muḥammad ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, from his father, who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at al-Khayf in Minā and said, “May God brighten the face of a person who hears my words and conveys them. Perhaps one who carries understanding is not himself a person of understanding, and perhaps he conveys it to someone more understanding than he. The heart of a believer harbors no ill will in three matters: sincerity in deeds for God, sincere counsel to the leaders of the Muslims, and remaining with their community, for their supplication encompasses those behind them.”

Ismāʿīl ibn Tawbah narrated to us: Zāfir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Abū Sinān, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from Murrah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was on his dark gray she-camel at ʿArafāt and said, “Do you know what day this is, what month this is, and what land this is?” They said, “This is a sacred land, a sacred month, and a sacred day.” He said, “Your property and your blood are sacred to you, like the sanctity of this month of yours, in this land of yours, on this day of yours. I will precede you at the Basin and take pride in your numbers among the nations, so do not blacken my face. I will rescue some people, and some people will be taken away from me. I will say to my Lord: My companions. He will say: You do not know what they introduced after you.”

Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us: Ṣadaqah ibn Khālid narrated to us: Hishām ibn al-Ghāz narrated to us: I heard Nāfiʿ report, from Ibn ʿUmar, that during the Hajj he performed, on the Day of Sacrifice the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among the stone pillars and said, “What day is this?” They said, “The Day of Sacrifice.” He said, “What land is this?” They said, “This is the sacred land of God.” He said, “What month is this?” They said, “The sacred month of God.” He said, “This is the day of the Greater Pilgrimage. Your blood, property, and honor are sacred to you, like the sanctity of this land, in this month, on this day.” Then he said, “Have I conveyed the message?” They said, “Yes.” The Prophet began saying, “O God, bear witness.” Then he bade the people farewell, and they called it the Farewell Pilgrimage.

Bakr ibn Khalaf Abū Bishr narrated to us: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Ṭāriq told me, from Ṭāwūs—and Abū al-Zubayr, from ʿĀʾishah and Ibn ʿAbbās—that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the circumambulation of visitation until night.

Ḥarmalah ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed us, from ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not jog during the seven circuits in which he performed the circumambulation of departure. ʿAṭāʾ said: There is no jogging in it.

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā narrated to us, from ʿUthmān ibn al-Aswad, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr, who said: I was sitting with Ibn ʿAbbās when a man came to him. He asked, “Where have you come from?” The man said, “From Zamzam.” He asked, “Did you drink from it as one should?” The man said, “How is that?” He replied, “When you drink from it, face the Kaʿbah, invoke the name of God, breathe three times, and drink your fill. When you finish, praise God, Mighty and Majestic. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the sign separating us from the hypocrites is their not drinking their fill from Zamzam.”
