Chapter 3: The likeness of this world

Mustawrid bin Shaddad said

“I was riding with the Messenger ofAllah(ﷺ) when he came across a dead lamb that had been thrownout.’ Hesaid: ‘Don’t you think that this is worthless to itsowners?’ It wassaid: ‘O Messenger of Allah, it is because it isworthless that theyhave thrown it out, - or words to that effect. Hesaid: ‘By the One inWhose Hand is my soul, this world is moreworthless to Allah than thisis to its owners.’”

AbuHurairah said

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying:‘Thisworld is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except theremembranceof Allah (dhikr) and what is conducive to that, or one whohasknowledge or who acquires knowledge.’”

Chapter 4: One who is not paid any heed

Harithahbin Wahb narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“Shall Inot tell you about the people of Paradise? Every weak andoppressedone. Shall I not tell you about the people of Hell? Everyharsh,haughty and arrogant one.”

It wasnarrated from Asma’ bint Yazid that she heard the Messenger ofAllah (ﷺ) say

“Shall I not tell you of the best of you?” Theysaid:“Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “The best of youare those who,when they are seen, Allah the Mighty, the Majestic, isremembered.”

Chapter 7: Keeping company with the poor

It wasnarrated that Abu Hurairah said

“Ja’far bin Abu Talib used tolike the poor; he would sit with them and talk to them, and theywouldtalk to him. And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave him theKunyah ofAbul-Masakin (Father of the Poor).”

It wasnarrated that Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said

“Love the poor, for Iheard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say in his supplication: ‘OAllah,cause me to live poor and cause me to die poor, and gather meamongthe poor (on the Day of Resurrection).’”

Chapter 8: The most wealthy

It wasnarrated from ‘Amr bin Ghailan Ath-Thaqafi that the MessengerofAllah (ﷺ) said

“O Allah, whoever believes in my and knows thatwhat I have brought is the truth from You, decrease his wealth andhischildren, and make the meeting with You dear to him, and hastenhisdeath. Whoever does not believe in me and does not know that whatIhave brought is the truth from You, increase his wealth and hischildren and make his life long.’”

Chapter 9: Contentment

It wasnarrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As that the Messenger ofAllah (ﷺ) said

“He has succeeded who is guided to Islam and isgranted sufficient provision and is content with it.”

Chapter 10: The livelihood of the family of Muhammad (saws)

It wasnarrated that Nu’man bin Bashir said

“I heard ‘Umar binKhattab say: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) writhing withhungerduring the day, and he could not even find the worst of dateswithwhich to fill his stomach.’”

It wasnarrated that Sulaiman bin Surad said

“The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) came to us and we stayed for three nights without havinganything to eat.”

Chapter 11: The beds of the family of Muhammad (saws)

It wasnarrated that ‘Aishah said

“The bed of the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) was made of leather, stuffed with fibers of date-palm trees.”

It wasnarrated that ‘Ali said

“The daughter of the Messenger ofAllah(ﷺ) was permitted to me as a bride, and our bed on the nightwhenshe was presented to me, was no more than the hide of a ram.”

Chapter 13: Construction and Demolition

It wasnarrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr said

“The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) passed by us when we were fixing a hut of ours, and said: ‘Whatis this?’ I said: ‘It is a hut of ours that has fallen intodisrepair.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The matter (ofdeath)may come sooner than that.’”

Chapter 15: Wisdom

It wasnarrated that Abu Ayyub said

“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ)andsaid: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me but make it concise.’ Hesaid: ‘When you stand to pray, pray like a man bidding farewell. Donot say anything for which you will have to apologize. And give uphope for what other people have.’”

It wasnarrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

Another chain reports a similar hadith.

Chapter 16: Freedom from arrogance, and having humility

It wasnarrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“Allah, the Glorified, says: ‘Pride is My cloak and greatness Myrobe, and whoever competes with Me with regard to either of them, Ishall throw him into Hell.’”

It wasnarrated that Anas bin Malik said

“The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ)used to visit the sick, attend funerals, accept the invitationsofslaves and ride donkeys. On the day (of the battle) of Quraizah andNadir, he was riding a donkey. On the day of Khaibar he was riding adonkey that was bridled with palmfibers and beneath him was apacksaddle made of palmfibers.”

Chapter 17: Modesty, shyness

It wasnarrated that Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said

“The Messenger ofAllah(ﷺ) was more modest than a virgin in her chamber. If hedislikedsomething, that could be seen in his face.”

Chapter 18: Forbearance

It wasnarrated from Sahl bin Mu’adh bin Anas, from his father, thattheMessenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“Whoever restrains his anger whenheis able to implement it, Allah will call him before all of creationon the Day of Resurrection, and will give him his choice of any hourithat he wants.”

It wasnarrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Ashajj‘Ansari

“You have two characteristics that Allah likes:Forbearanceand modesty.”
