Chapter 21: Show-off and reputation

It wasnarrated from Abu Sa’d bin Abu Fadalah Al-Ansari, who was oneofthe Companions, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“When Allahassembles the first and the last on the Day of Resurrection, a dayconcerning which there is no doubt, a caller will cry out: ‘Whoeverused to associate anyone else in an action that he did for Allah, lethim seek his reward from someone other than Allah, for Allah is soself-sufficient that He has no need of any associate.’”

It wasnarrated from Shaddad bin Aws that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said

“The thing that I fear most for my nation is associatingotherswith Allah. I do not say that they will worship the sun or themoonor idols, but deeds done for the sake of anyone other than Allah,andhidden desires.”

It wasnarrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Prophet (ﷺ)said

“Whoever wants to be heard of, Allah will make him heard of, andwhoever wants to be seen, Allah will show him (i.e., make known tothepeople his true motives and intentions).”

It wasnarrated from Jundab that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“Whoeverwants to be heard of, Allah will make him heard of, andwhoever wantsto be seen, Allah will show him (i.e., expose his realmotives).”

Chapter 24: Caution and piety

It wasnarrated from Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“There is no wisdom like reflection, and no honor like goodmanners.”

Chapter 25: Praise

It wasnarrated that ‘Abdullah said

“A man said to the Messenger ofAllah (ﷺ): ‘How can I know when I have done well and when I havedone something bad?’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘If you hear yourneighbors saying that you have done well, then you have done well,andif you hear them saying that you have done something bad, thenyouhave done something bad.’”

It wasnarrated from Abu Dharr

“I said to the Prophet (ﷺ): ‘(Whatdoyou say about when) a man does a deed for the sake of Allah, andpeople love him for it?’ He said: ‘That is the immediate gladtidingsof the believer.’”

Chapter 27: Hope and life span

It wasnarrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“The ages of (the people in) my nation will be between sixty andseventy, and few of them will exceed that.”

Chapter 28: Persisting in a good deed

It wasnarrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said

“The Messenger ofAllah(ﷺ) passed by a man who was praying on a rock, and he wenttowardsMakkah and stayed a while, then he left and found the manstillpraying as he had been. He stood up and clasped his hands, thensaid:“O people, you should observe moderation,” three times, “forAllah does not get tired (of giving reward) but you get tired.”

Chapter 30: Repentance

It wasnarrated from Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“Allah the Blessed and Exalted says: ‘O My slaves, all of youaresinners except those whom I have saved. So ask Me for forgiveness,Iwill forgive you. Whoever among you knows that I have the power toforgive and asks Me to forgive by My power, I will forgive him. Allofyou are astray except those whom I guide. Ask Me for guidance andIwill guide you. All of you are poor except those whom I enrich(makeindependent of means). Ask of Me and I will grant youprovision. Evenif your living and your dead, your first and yourlast, your fresh andyour dry, were all as pious as the most piousamong My slaves, thatwould not increase my dominion as much as agnat’s wing, and if theywere to be as evil as the most evil amongMy slaves, that would notdetract from My dominion as much as agnat’s wing. Even if your livingand your dead, your first and yourlast, your fresh and your dry, wereto join together and each of themwere to ask for all that he wishesfor, that would only detract fromMy dominion as much as if one of youwere to pass by the edge of thesea and dip a needle in it andwithdraw it. That is because I am theMost Generous, Majestic. I givewith a word; when I will something,all I do is say to it “Be!” – andit is.’”

Chapter 31: Death and preparing for it

It wasnarrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoeverhates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.” It was said to him:“OMessenger of Allah, does hating to meet Allah mean hating tomeetdeath? For all of us hate death.” He said: “No. Rather thatis only atthe moment of death. But if he is given the glad tidingsof the mercyand forgiveness of Allah, he loves to meet Allah andAllah loves tomeet him; and if he is given the tidings of thepunishment of Allah,he hates to meet Allah and Allah hates to meethim.”

4265 It wasnarrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said

“None ofyou should wish for death because of some harm that befallshim. Ifhe must wish for death, let him say: ‘O Allah, keep me alivesolong as living is good for me and cause me to die when death isgoodfor me.’”

Chapter 32: The grave and disintegration (of the body)

It wasnarrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“There is no part of man that will not disintegrate, apart fromasingle bone at the base of the coccyx, from which he will berecreated on the Day of Resurrection.”

It wasnarrated that Hani’ the freed slave of ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan,said

“When ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan stood beside a grave, he wouldweepuntil his beard became wet. It was said to him: ‘You rememberParadiseand Hell, and you do not weep, but you weep for this?’ Hesaid: ‘TheMessenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The grave is the firststage of theHereafter. Whoever is delivered from it, what comesafter it iseasier. If he is not delivered from it, then what comesafter it isharder.’” He said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said: “I havenever seen any horrible scene but the grave is morehorrible.”

It wasnarrated from Jabir that the Prophet (ﷺ) said

“When thedeceasedenters the grave, the sun is made to appear as if it issetting. Hesits up, wipes his eyes and says: ‘Let me pray.’”

Chapter 33: The Resurrection

It wasnarrated that Qasim said

‘Aishah said: “I said: ‘O Messengerof Allah, how will the people be gathered on the Day ofResurrection?’He said: ‘Barefoot and naked.’ I said: ‘Andthe women?’ He said: ‘Andthe women.’ I said: ‘O Messenger ofAllah, will we not feelembarrassed?’ He said: ‘O ‘Aishah, thematter will be too serious forthem to look at one another.’”

It wasnarrated from Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ)said

“The people will be presented (before Allah) three timesonthe Day of Resurrection. The first two times will be for disputesandexcuses, and the third time will be when the scrolls (of deeds)flyinto their hands; some will take it in the right hand and some intheleft.”

Chapter 34: Description of the Nation of Muhammad (saws)

It wasnarrated that Rifa’ah Al-Juhani said

“We came back (from acampaign) with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: ‘By theOnein Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, there is no person whobelievesthen stands firm, but he will be caused to enter Paradise. Ihope thatthey will not enter it until you and those who arerighteous amongyour offspring will enter it and take up yourdwelling places therein.And my Lord has promised me that seventythousand of my nation willenter Paradise without being brought toaccount.’”

AbuUmamah Al-Bahili said

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say:‘My Lord has promised me that seventy thousand of my nation willenterParadise without being brought to account or punished. Witheverythousand will be (another) seventy thousand, and three handfulsof myLord, the Glorified.’”

It wasnarrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said

“This nation has been granted mercy (in the Hereafter) and itstorment (in this world) is at the hands of one another. When the Dayof Resurrection comes, each Muslim man will be given a man from amongthe idolaters and it will be said: ‘This is your ransom from theFire.’”
